Technology, Digital and Sales Recruitment in Leicester
A city on the rise
With a high student population and a rapidly-growing space sector, Leicester is a tech city on the rise. The area is well-established within the space and satellite tech sectors, and thanks to continued investment, it’s shaping up to be the space capital of the UK - making the potential for tech and IT jobs in Leicester huge.
The National Space Centre has its home in the city, and Space Park Leicester was opened in 2021. It was developed by the University of Leicester, in partnership with Leicester City Council and the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership, as a hub of innovation, research and incubation facility for both academics and private companies.
The ever-growing potential for this industry is vast; at the end of 2022, the exchequer secretary to the Treasury unveiled a £19.4m government investment plan as part of the levelling up fund to support the development of the city’s space and satellite tech sectors, which should drive further private investment too.
“It’s fantastic to see how our investment will turbocharge growth in Leicester’s rapidly expanding space sector, encouraging innovative businesses to expand and grow in the city, creating high-skilled jobs”
Exchequer Secretary
Felicity Buchan
The Space
Park alone is projected to support more than 2,500 direct and indirect jobs in
the East Midlands over the next decade, and contribute £750 million a year to
the UK space sector.
Why look for IT jobs in Leicester?
Whatever your specialism, Leicester is a city with a lot to offer. Although the Space Park specialises in companies that process satellite data, it’s already attracted a range of private tenants like Rolls-Royce, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Hewlett Packard, and Amazon, meaning huge employment opportunities across several sectors.
Thanks to the local universities, there are plenty of graduate IT jobs in Leicester if you’re just starting out, and the institutions themselves are big employers too - De Montfort alone provides the city with 12,000 jobs, adding £390 million to the local economy every year. Plus, you’ll find a host of tech events, talks, and meetups with like-minded people, alongside broader events like the Women in Business Network and the Leicester Business Festival.
As for the
city’s living standards & conditions, it’s hard to beat. Rent prices in
Leicester are 65% cheaper than in
the capital, and the city was even named the best place to live
and work in the East Midlands in 2023.
