The definition of gamification is; the concept of applying the design techniques and mechanics of games in order to engage and therefore motivate individuals to reach their goals. So now you know! In terms of HR the concept is still in the early stages but receiving some really positive results, with some businesses using the technique successfully since 2009. Certainly some big names across a variety of sectors are ultilising gamification to their advantage.

There are many misconceptions surrounding IT, one of the main ones being that it's actually some kind of parallel universe. Other departments tend to think of the ‘IT guys’ as all being geeks who hide themselves away and rarely communicate with the outside world unless it is via email or online chat.

What do we believe is the truth behind the headlines? Well, it is true in many instances and across some key sectors robots are currently undertaking tasks that were once reserved for us mere mortals, you only need to go to the self serve checkout in your local supermarket to see the subtle but definite changes in our world. A little closer to our hearts robots are involved in both computer manufacturing and car production, although as the new last week showed, even using robots to replace humans is not fool proof, sadly with fatal results.
